Pure Water Movement begins in Boston

1825

The campaign begins after Dr. John Collins Warren writes a letter questioning the quality of the city’s water supply and suggesting that the public health was being compromised. The letter prompts city officials to begin looking for options to improve the city’s water system. A study by Dr. Daniel Treadwell recommends that Boston utilize Spot Pond in Stoneham and the Charles River for its water supply.
